Ferris Wheel Doily Crochet Pattern

Today is an exciting day for me. Today I publish my very first crochet doily pattern, The Ferris Wheel Doily Crochet Pattern.  This all began when I picked up a gorgeous one of a kind hand dyed skein of yarn from the Little Woolie Makes Shop in Hastings, Victoria. I love this shop and the owner Julie is so nice and incredibly talented. I have crocheted with her hand dyed yarn before so I searched out some more of her hand dyed yarn this time too. ​

Getting inspiration from colour

This gorgeous hank of moody colour is aptly named Dull Day Carnival. The first thing that popped into my mind was a carnival on a gloomy day, dark clouds dotting a deep blue and grey sky, and the carnival lights shining through it all. I could see a Ferris Wheel with all its lights standing tall among this scene and I felt that this yarn had to become a Ferris Wheel Doily. 
At first I walked around just enjoying the colours, but once I caked this yarn up, this design just flew off my hook. ​

Expressing myself through crochet

Over the last few years I have struggled greatly with post natal anxiety and depression and would rarely feel confident in what I was doing, even when I was just following other patterns. 
Over time I made so many doilies from some other amazing designers, that I have slowly built up confidence in my skills and my ability to see different shapes and patterns coming out of the yarn.
Now that my wall has over 15 doilies on it, I figured now is as good a time as any to make the leap and try designing something myself. This pattern has let me feel that I have found my little sweet spot in the crochet and yarn community. No doubt that sweet spot will change over time as my ultimate dream is to own my own yarn shop one day, but for now I feel like I am finally doing what I am meant to be doing. ​

My favourite part of this whole process so far has been seeing my amazing testers complete this pattern. Here are some of their amazing doilies!
